John Legend, a 1999 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and his wife Chrissy Teigen, visited campus on October 28 to stump for the Democratic Party’s nominee for president Kamala Harris. The short event took place early afternoon on Locust Walk under the Tampons.
Penn Dems set up a table at the scene, but the group’s president, Ellie Goluboff-Schragger, who was helping run the booth, confirmed that the club was not part of the planning for the appearance. She also confirmed that Penn Dems heard about the event only a short time before John Legend and Chrissy Teigen arrived. Harris-Walz posters and stickers were stacked on the table to give away to attendees and students who were walking by.
After the event ended at 1:30pm, there was increased traffic on the bridge over S University Ave. Several students were seen walking down Locust Walk in the direction of the College Green with Harris-Walz campaign signs. By 3:40pm, the area had cleared of attendees. Chalk writing saying “GO VOTE!”, “VOTE NOW!”, and “Harris-Walz 2024” remained on the ground.
