Democratic Senator Bob Casey has yet to concede the Pennsylvania Senate race to the GOP’s Dave McCormick, telling constituents that there are still votes to be counted in order to determine the election’s outcomes. With 99% of the vote recorded, McCormick holds 3,379,945 votes, while Casey trails behind at 3,350,648—a difference of roughly 30,000 ballots (0.4%).
In a video posted on Casey’s social media accounts, Casey said, “Across our Commonwealth, over 7 million people cast their votes in a free and fair election. Our county election officials will continue counting those votes, just like they do in every election.”
Various news outlets, including the Associated Press, The Washington Post, National Public Radio, and Politico, called the race for David McCormick last Thursday. Certain news outlets have deemed the race too close to call, including NBC News and CNN, even with Pennsylvania exit polls favoring McCormick.
Although 99% of the vote has been counted and numerous outlets have called the race, Casey has taken to X every day thus far following the election to stress the importance of counting every vote. In three consecutive posts, Casey said he wants to ensure “Pennsylvanian voices are heard” while sharing the hashtag #CountEveryVotePA.
Meanwhile, presumed Senator-elect Dave McCormick has celebrated his victory, telling his expected constituents, “I’m honored to represent the people of Pennsylvania, and will fight hard to make sure their voices are heard in Washington.” Most recently, he publicized his attendance of the Senate Orientation with a smile, showing his followers his new office with a plaque with his name.
With the Associated Press officially calling the race, reporting 99% of votes counted, and McCormick already preparing for his new role in Washington, it seems likely that an official concession from Bob Casey is imminent.
