A shooting that resulted in the injury of one man occurred at the intersection of 40th and Walnut on Tuesday, November 11th.
Residents of the Walnut Street block reported hearing three loud gunshots shortly after 10 p.m., and NBC Philadelphia reported that police recovered three shell casings at the scene. Reports indicate that a 34-year-old man was shot exiting the side door of the Cinemark, suffering gunshot wounds to his arm and abdomen. He was hospitalized, and no additional injuries were reported following the altercation.
The sidewalk in front of the Cinemark and the Panera Bread was taped off last night, but the tape had been removed as of 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The area has since returned to normal activity.
As of Wednesday afternoon, authorities have not announced the suspect’s apprehension. The perpetrator and motive are still unknown at this time, but witnesses report the gunman wearing a tan coat and driving off in a silver Ford Taurus. Investigators believe they recovered the getaway car that same night between 49th and Aspen St. No arrests have been made, and no additional information about the offender has been released to the public.
This incident comes days after violence erupted this past Saturday in the same area. Over homecoming weekend, disturbances among a large crowd of juveniles prompted a police response, sending three officers to Penn Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.
