At roughly 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning, a 48-year-old woman, Meaza Brown, was struck and killed by a vehicle at the intersection of 33rd and Market Street. The vehicle allegedly blew through a red light at a high speed before then fleeing the scene of the crime. Brown was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center with multiple injuries and internal bleeding. She was pronounced dead at 4:59 a.m.

The woman was reportedly commuting to work, accompanied by three other co-workers, when struck. The force of the impact was so strong that she was thrown several hundred feet away from the original point of contact.

Based on a description given by one of the co-workers, the police believe to have recovered the car–a silver Chrysler 300–involved in the accident at 34th and Race St. The car was registered to an address; however, upon visiting the house, the police did not find the driver.
