Penn alumnus, who graduated from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) in 2020, Luigi Mangione has been arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, PA as a person of interest in the killing of the UnitedHealth CEO. Mangione graduated Cum Laude from Penn with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) and a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE). According to a quote by the NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, he is believed to have acted alone. Kenny also reported that a handwritten note recovered during the arrest reflected general ill will towards corporate America. According to another official, the document railed “against the healthcare industry and suggesting that violence is the answer.”

Mangione served as a teaching assistant (TA) for CIS 121 (Data Structures and Algorithms) in 2018 and 2019 and was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity throughout his time at Penn. Mangione’s LinkedIn lists eleven computer science and statistic classes he took at Penn: CIS 502 Advanced Algorithms, CIS 519 Applied Machine Learning, CIS 521 Artificial Intelligence, CIS 545 Big Data Analytics, CIS 530 Computational Linguistics, CIS 371 Computer Organization and Design, CIS 581 Computer Vision, CIS 121 Data Structure and Algorithms, STAT 430 Probability, CIS 350 Software Design/Engineering, and CIS 195 iOS Application Development.
