On February 9, 2025, the Philadelphia Eagles emerged victorious in Super Bowl LIX, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in a long-awaited rematch of the 2023 championship. This time, though, the Eagles secured their redemption in dominant fashion—leading 24-0 by halftime. The game ended with a score of 40-22 and it is the first Eagles championship since their 2018 win in Super Bowl LIII. The Super Bowl marked the culmination of a redeeming season for the Eagles, who started their journey to the championship with two wins and two losses, before winning ten straight games.

Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts won the Super Bowl MVP Award after throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for one touchdown. With yesterday’s performance, Hurts now holds the Super Bowl record for most rushing yards by a quarterback with 72—besting his own Super Bowl performance two years ago.

As the season’s most important game progressed, Philadelphians wasted no time heading to Center City to celebrate, with the whole skyline lit up green in support. By the final whistle, which confirmed the Eagles as Super Bowl champions and denied the Chiefs a coveted third consecutive championship, the streets of Philadelphia were packed with jubilant fans chanting, cheering, and reveling in the victory.

The celebrations in Center City quickly escalated, with fireworks lighting up the night, fans climbing onto cars, garbage trucks, and even streetlights. The sheer volume of people made movement difficult  and raised some safety concerns, but the electric atmosphere was undeniable. In true Philadelphia fashion, the city of brotherly love was on full display—differences momentarily set aside in collective triumph.

Official celebrations will likely take place later this week. Last time the Eagles won the Super Bowl, their championship parade was held on the Thursday after the Super Bowl. This year, the anticipated Eagles championship parade is planned for Friday, February 14.

As of now, the University has not announced any official celebrations or class cancellations. However, students have embraced the victory, donning green and Eagles gear, sparking conversations and shared excitement across campus.

All of this to say—GO BIRDS!
